Granbury soccer debuts at No. 3 in state poll

Saturday, January 18, 2020

The Granbury Lady Pirate soccer team is putting Texas on notice.

Granbury is ranked No. 3 in the state in Class 5A in the opening Texas Girls Coaches Association soccer poll, released on Tuesday.

The Lady Pirates are 8-0-0 and have won the Waller and Aledo Tournaments.

Dripping Springs checks in at No. 1, while Highland Park is No. 2.

Grapevine, the team that knocked the Lady Pirates out of the postseason last year, is ranked No. 7.

Granbury head coach Winkleman said before the year that polls “don’t really mean anything anyway,” and that the Lady Pirates were focused on their district opponents more than any outside expectation.

After a week off, Granbury will host Weatherford at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
