Lady Pirates sweep bi-district game
The Granbury Lady Pirates dominated their UIL Class 5A bi-district game against Carter-Riverside at Aledo Monday, winning 3-0 (25-6, 25-9, 25-4).
Granbury coach Desiree Shahan didn’t need to use any of her timeouts in the game, as Granbury played nearly flawless volleyball.
Ellie Alexander led Gran-bury with nine kills, with Gracie Nichols adding eight and Payton Bell and Courtney Smith each adding seven. LoLo Schroeder was deadly from the back line with nine aces on 21 serves.
The Lady Pirates were heavily favored entering the game, but they didn’t let that get to their heads.
“We were thinking about switching some things up and putting some people into different spots,” Shahan said. “So we were focused on running our gameplan and what we would need to do if we made it into the next round.”
Granbury has loftier goals than a bi-district title. That doesn’t mean Monday’s win was any less fun.
“It’s always fun,” Shahan said. “They’re all excited to get a gold ball this year. I mean, this whole game was just so much fun.”
The Lady Pirates had to wait to find out their next opponent. Denton and Colleyville Heritage had their game Tuesday. Granbury will play the winner of that game on Friday at 6 p.m. at Saginaw Chisholm Trail High School.
