Lightfoot, Lady Indians beat Santa Anna
The Lipan Lady Indians are moving on to the regional semifinal round in the Class 1A softball playoffs after beating Santa Anna 3-1 last week.
Lipan’s Grayson Lightfoot had a great game, both at the plate and in the pitcher’s circle. Offensively, she went 3-4 from the leadoff spot and scored two runs. Defensively, she pitched all seven innings for the Lady Indians, striking out 17 while allowing six walks and four hits.
Taylor Clark was also outstanding at the plate for the Lady Indians, going 2-4 and driving in all three of Lipan’s runs. Her single in the bottom of the second gave Lipan a 2-1 lead, and her triple in the bottom of the fourth extended the Lady Indians’ lead to two.
Kara Mercer went 1-2 and drew two walks. Taylor Grove was 2-2 with a walk, and Jolee Tuggle was 1-3 with a run scored.
Lipan out-hit Santa Anna 9-4.
The Lady Indians will play Gorman in the regional semifinal round at Abilene Christian University at 1 p.m. on Thursday. Gorman beat Perrin-Whitt 6-1 in the regional quarterfinal round.
The winner of Lipan-Gorman will play the winner of Dodd City and Ector in the regional finals later this month.
