The North Central Texas Academy Pioneers knocked off UIL Class 4A No. 19 China Spring 53-44 on the road Saturday.

NCTA took control early, going up 17-9 after one quarter and 31-22 at the half. And when China Spring cut the Pioneers’ lead to 39-34 heading into the fourth quarter, they responded by winning the final eight minutes 16-10.

Elias Ngoga, a 6-10 senior, put up 21 points. Thomas Kuol scored 12, including six in the first quarter, and Nikola Zoric added 10.

NCTA needed just one three-pointer to beat China Spring, which Ngoga nailed in the first quarter.

The Pioneers (17-10) hosted Decatur Tuesday. NCTA is not part of a basketball conference, having gone independent prior to the 2018-19 season.
