Tuesday, January 8, 2019

The Granbury Pirates couldn’t keep up with Crowley in a 55-43 home loss Friday in District 5-5A play.

Granbury trailed 13-9 after one quarter, and it looked as though the Pirate defense would frustrate Crowley all night. Granbury head coach David Breazeale could be heard praising his players for their efforts on the defensive end.

But in the second, Crowley went on a 15-6 run that spanned just under four minutes. Cade Dudley scored 11 points in the quarter for Granbury.

Crowley built its lead in the third quarter, holding the Pirates to four made baskets. Granbury trailed 47-33 heading into the fourth quarter, and couldn’t make up the deficit in the final eight minutes despite two three-pointers from Dudley.

Dudley led Granbury with 17 points. Micah Tucker finished with nine, Cage Crain added six, Blake Cason and Zach McCreight each had four and Gage Molinari scored three.

Granbury sat at 6-14 (0-3 in district) after Friday, and traveled to play Mansfield Legacy Tuesday. Legacy was ranked No. 20 in the state in Class 5A in the most recent Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll.

The Pirates will host Arlington Seguin Friday. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
