Pirates, Lady Pirates lose to Legacy at home
The Granbury Pirates and Lady Pirates both had big losses to Mansfield Legacy at home Tuesday.
The boys lost 64-37 to fall to 0-4 in District 5-5A, while the girls lost 52-28 and slipped to 1-5.
The Pirates trailed by one at the end of the first quarter and by 13 at the half, and had cut Legacy’s lead to 12 heading into the fourth quarter. But Legacy pulled away in a hurry, hassling Granbury into turnovers with full-court defense.
Michael Withey and McLain Golba both had 10 points for the Pirates. Withey added 15 rebounds and four blocks, two of which were highlight-reel plays that brought the crowd to its feet.
In the Lady Pirates’ game, Granbury lost 64-37. Legacy led 29-4 at the half and didn’t allow a made basket in the first quarter. The Lady Pirates kept at it and won the fourth quarter 20-6 to chip away at the final margin.
Nina Parker scored all of her eight points in the fourth quarter to lead Granbury. Brooklynne Sandel and Ashlyn Bednarz had four points, while Courtney Smith, Ashtin Jinkerson and Haley Moody had three.
Granbury played Arlington Seguin on the road Friday, and will host Everman Tuesday. The Pirates tip off at 6:30 p.m., with the Lady Pirates following after.
