Rattlers earn first district win
Matt Moody’s complete game on the mound keyed a 7-1 victory for Tolar against Jacksboro on the road Friday.
Moody needed 94 pitches to strike out 10 batters, allowing four hits and one earned run.
At the plate, Moody was just as effective. The junior went 2-3 and drove in three runs, two of which came on a single in the top of the third to give Tolar a lead it would not relinquish.
Derian Morphew went 3-4, stole two bases and scored twice. Milo Behrens also scored two runs, and Joseph Arce went 1-1 with a run and an RBI. The Rattlers out-hit Jacksboro 10-4.
Jacksboro earned its only run on a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning. Moody would allow just two more hits after that homer.
The Rattlers also had one of their better defensive efforts of the season, recording only one error.
It was a much-needed win for Tolar, which now sits at 1-3 in District 7-3A.
The Rattlers hosted Paradise Tuesday, and play Boyd on the road at 7 p.m. Friday.
