Rattlers win 3 in Wichita Falls tournament
The Tolar Rattlers went 3-1 at the Wichita Falls Fantasy of Lights Tournament last weekend.
Tolar (5-1) opened with a 55-51 loss in overtime to Class 1A No. 2 Graford Friday morning. The Rattlers rebounded by blowing out Petrolia 82-31 in the next game.
Tolar’s defense forced Petrolia into 50 turnovers, and the Rattlers had 32 steals and 23 pass deflections. Matt Moody and Blake Cason each had 19 points, with Moody notching 10 steals and Cason adding nine steals and nine rebounds.
Dylan Ellis scored 11 points and had seven steals and a team-high five assists. Brett Jackson scored 10 points on 5-8 shooting.
The Rattlers then beat Lubbock Roosevelt 43-29 Saturday morning. Tolar held a 29-24 lead after three quarters before pulling away in the final eight minutes. Turnovers were again key, as the Rattlers forced 21 turnovers from Roosevelt while only giving up 11.
Moody led with 11 points, six assists and five steals, while Jackson and Cason each had 10 points.
Tolar finished out the tournament with a 52-40 win over Slaton Saturday night. The Rattlers led after each quarter and shot 45% from the field compared to Slaton’s 34.7%.
Cason dominated the game, scoring 18 points on 7-13 shooting and grabbing 10 rebounds. Jackson had 14 rebounds and six points. Justin Berry had a strong performance, scoring 11 points and knocking down 4-6 from the free throw line.
Tolar played Glen Rose Tuesday on the road. The Rattlers will return home to host Poolville Friday at 6:15 p.m.
