Senior Night comeback falls short

Wednesday, February 6, 2019

The Granbury Lady Pirates nearly staged a remarkable comeback on Senior Night against Mansfield Legacy but lost 53-47 Friday.

Granbury trailed 45-30 entering the fourth quarter before the Lady Pirates went on a 14-0 run that spanned 4:30 and cut Legacy’s lead to one. Nina Parker scored nine points in that span, while Morgan Ashmore had a three-pointer and Ashtin Jinkerson scored off an offensive rebound.

But star Legacy guard Harmoni Turner, a Top-100 player in the class of 2020, scored back-to-back baskets that made the score 50-44 and flipped the momentum back against Granbury. Blaine Dixon’s layup with a minute left cut the deficit to 50-47, but Legacy held on for the win.

This was the final home game for seniors Mandy Withey, Ashmore, Dixon, Kenzie Scott, Leah Parker and Maddi Samuelson. Gran-bury honored them before the game.

Ashmore finished with 15 points – all on three-pointers – to lead the Lady Pirates, who dropped to 3-10 in District 5-5A. Nina Parker finished with 13 points, and Withey added six.

Granbury closed out its season Tuesday on the road against Arlington Seguin.
