Stars of the show

Posted

One last look back

Granbury and Tolar football had several stars emerge over the course of the season, and some of those are pictured on this page.

At top left is Riley Mc-Gee, a senior linebacker for the Pirates that was both a threat in the pass rush and excellent in coverage over the middle and in the flats. McGee picked off two passes over the course of the season, including the one seen in the picture against Crowley.

At bottom left is Braegan Berry (33), the running back and linebacker for Tolar that played nearly every down for the Rattlers. Berry was as capable of breaking a 50-yard run as he was putting a hit on an opposing quarterback like he’s pictured doing against Goldthwaite.

And pictured at top right during Granbury’s Homecoming win over Arlington Heights are Kyler Gibson

(4) and Zach Watson, who formed part of a dynamic backfield for the Pirates.

Gibson, a senior, was a dual-threat quarterback that showed off deft scrambling ability in addition to a soft touch on deep passes. Watson, a junior running back, went over 1,000 yards for the season on the ground and electrified crowds with his speed and skill.

Along with Clayton Kracy, the Pirates’ other featured back, Watson and Gibson were a nightmare for defenders to try and stop all season as the Pirates made the playoffs for the first time since 2013.
