The Tolar Lady Rattlers led the De Leon Lady Bearcats through three quarters Saturday morning but couldn’t hold on in a 47-43 loss.
Mia Fletcher launched a heave from beyond half court to beat the halftime buzzer and give the Lady Rattlers a 22-19 lead after two quarters. Tolar kept that three-point lead going into the final eight minutes.
Tolar shot better from the field and had just three more turnovers than De Leon. But poor free throw shooting doomed the Lady Rattlers, as Tolar went 2-10 from the line and allowed De Leon back in the ball game. The Lady Bearcats went 16-27 from the line, which proved to be the difference.
Tolar’s Grace Jones finished with 16 points, 14 rebounds and four assists, all of which were team-highs. Hope Grivette added another nine points, and Aubrie Sibley finished with seven points, 11 rebounds and a team-high four steals.
Fletcher had eight points and six rebounds. Shylar Nunley buried a three-pointer for Tolar.
The Lady Rattlers (1-3) hosted Meridian Monday, and are off until Tuesday at Hico at 6:30 p.m.
