Blake Cason and the Tolar Rattlers are preparing to start their 2020 playoff run. Tolar’s bi-district opponent is Childress, the winner of District 8-3A and the No. 19 team in Class 3A. The Rattlers finished at 8-6 in District 7-3A and were the fourth seed. Tolar and Childress will square off at Merkel High School Tuesday at 6 p.m. The winner of that game will take on the winner of Anson and Eastland in the area round.

Last Monday morning as I was heading out before sunup, you could see the red sun in the morning which always has me thinking of that old saying: “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky at morning, sailors take warning.” Well luckily, I was not heading out on the water that morning. I get constantly asked about “bananas on the boat,” which led me to run this article on water myths and superstitions.

It wasn’t until the third quarter of the area round playoff game against the Brookesmith Lady Mustangs in Stephenville Thursday that the Lipan Lady Indians finally showed why they’re the No. 3 team in Class 1A.

The Cornerstone Christian Academy Lady Crusaders beat Georgetown Grace Academy 40- 32 in the first round of the Texas Christian Athletic Federation playoffs last week. Baylee Morton hit four three-pointers en route to 22 points, and Leah Lawson (pictured) added nine more. CCA took on Victory Baptist Academy Tuesday in the semifinal. District champs

By virtue of Lingleville’s loss Friday and Lipan’s win over Gorman Monday, freshman guard Tate Branson and the Lipan Indians are once again the District 19-1A champions. Lipan went 11-1 in district play and will be the top seed in the UIL Class 1A boys playoffs, which begin next week. Win streak

Austin McGowan and the Tolar Rattlers are hitting their strides just in time for the Class 3A playoffs. Tolar’s 59-53 victory over Paradise Friday moved the Rattlers to 8-5 in District 7-3A and was Tolar’s fourth consecutive win. The Rattlers had a chance to make it five straight wins in their regular season finale at home against Brock Tuesday. Tolar’s bi-district playoff game will be on Feb. 25 against Merkel in Childress.

Hold the finish

Granbury senior Branden Hunt hit a couple of deep three-pointers at Everman Friday. Hunt and the rest of the Pirate seniors ended their GHS careers Tuesday night at the James Wann Sports Center against Burleson on Senior Night.
