Branden Hunt, a recent graduate of the Granbury High School boys basketball team, announced that he will continue his athletic career at Howard Payne University during a signing ceremony. The Yellow Jackets compete in NCAA Division III athletics with the American Southwest Conference. A Pirate standout for his senior year, Hunt was named second team All-District for the 2020 season. Pictured with the college basketball player are his parents, Jon and Nikole Hunt, and brothers, Braeden and Reece.

The Lake Granbury Kiwanis Firecracker 5K Saturday drew a slew of runners. The race finished with 131 competitors. Overall winner was Clayton Smith, 18, of Cresson, who ran a 17:17. Female winner was Gina Mordica, 50, of Granbury, with a time of 20:37. Full results are on the Race Day Event Services website.

Edith Valdez, a senior on the Granbury High School cross country team, announced that she will continue her athletic career at Dodge City Community College in Kansas. Valdez was one of the GHS team’s Most Valuable Players for the past two seasons. In attendance at the ceremony were her mother, Maria Garcia (right), and GHS head coach Amber Ward. JEFF MEADOR
