City seeks public's input on community pool

What would you most like to see at a public pool facility? A lazy river component? A climbing wall? Awesome water slides?

The city of Granbury is seeking public input on pool amenities through a community meeting and online survey. It’s all related to the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan that the City Council adopted two years ago.

The city has contracted with Brinkley Sargent Wiginton Architects and Counsilman-Hunsaker to conduct an aquatic study for the Dana Vollmer Municipal Swimming Pool located by the City Park at 301 N. Park St.

A community meeting at which the public can view different proposals for future aquatics facilities will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at the Lake Granbury Conference Center, 621 E. Pearl St.

The online survey is accessible at https://survey.chh2o.com/9jZN9i.

Survey participants can express their views about such things as the importance of water depth and competitive versus recreational aquatic facilities. They can also choose preferences from among 12 amenities that include concessions, a lazy river, a climbing wall, shade/party areas, waterslides and children’s play structures.

If the city moves forward with some of those features, they might differ from those shown in the survey photos.

The Dana Vollmer Municipal Swim Center has served as the city’s public pool for many years. It is named after the former Granbury resident and competitive swimmer who is a five-time Olympic gold medalist and former world record-holder.

The facility features a 4,280-square-feet, 196,000-gallon pool with six 75-foot swimming lanes. It also has a shaded kiddie splash area for toddlers.

Granbury Communications Manager Jeff Newpher indicated that the city is not yet prepared to provide details on when it might move forward on new or improved swimming facilities once the public has provided input.
