A fitting finale for tough, challenging year

Posted

It was a fitting finale for the seniors who endured nearly a year of study under COVID-19 limitations.

A sea of graduates in purple robes leapt off folding chairs Friday night at Pirate Stadium as caps sailed overhead. Fireworks exploded to cheers from the hundreds who braved a stormy day to be present for Granbury High School’s commencement ceremony.

“That was so cool,” senior Emma Leslie said, as she grabbed her friend and fellow graduate Emma Revett in a bear hug.

Nearly 400 seniors lined up to accept diplomas as their names were announced. Some walked somberly back to their seats while others whooped and hollered.

There were tears of joy.

Mostly, it was relief, that the most challenging year of their young lives was finally over.

Up in the stands a figure dressed up as a stormtrooper of Star Wars fame was taking selfies with bemused parents. He remained standing, reading a program.

“I had to make sure our graduate could see where we were sitting,” Jason Fojtasek wrote on Facebook.

Mr. Fojtasek you were remarkably present.

You couldn’t be missed.

So were the happy faces of seniors who now can call themselves graduates.
