HOOD COUNTY LIBRARY

Hood County Library Director Jennifer Logsdon is a former public school educator of 23 years, earning a master’s degree in Library Science during that time. She enjoys spending time with her blended family of five children, baking and of course reading.

Can you believe that summer is quickly approaching? The school year is winding down, swimsuits are being purchased, and people are getting their boats ready for the lake.

Summer is an all time favorite season for a lot of people. When I was kid, I loved summer, mostly because it meant I could spend lazy days lying in the back of my dad’s pick-up truck with a book, under the shade of our huge maple tree and escape to an imaginary place! It meant meeting new characters and trying to earn the most points at my hometown library.

The Hood County Library is getting ready to launch the 2021 Summer Reading Challenge, Tails and Tales! And, we are so very excited that we will be having face-to-face events.

The Summer Reading kick-off event is Saturday, May 30 from 10-12. Come enjoy a snow-cone from Funky Munky, get your face painted, play a few games, and win some prizes. Tails and Tales is for ages birth-18. This summer registration will take place through an online program called Readsquared. This program can be accessed on your home computer, or as an app on your smartphone or tablet. It tracks reading progress while readers earn badges. With each badge earned, there will be physical prizes that can be picked up at the library. As in the past, as levels are completed, readers will become eligible to enter the drawing for Grand Prizes during the end of summer celebration. Find more details at the library!

Beginning June 2 at 10:30 a.m., simultaneous story times for PreK-1st grade and 2nd grade-5th grade will happen at the library each Wednesday in June and July. The library will also provide take-home activities for attendees that will coordinate with that week’s story.

Miss Cookie has been busy scheduling guests, such as Wild-Life on the Move, Nancy and Friends (puppets), and The Doss Heritage Center. Watch our online calendar or Facebook page, or stop and get a pamphlet at the library for a complete itinerary for this summer’s programming.

Teens will not be left out. Be on the lookout for how teens can participate and win

prizes this summer too!

For the readers who qualify, there will be an End of Summer Reading Bash that will include inflatables with water!

All of us here at the library are on the edge of our seats in anticipation of seeing all of fyou in person for Tails and Tales 2021!
