Cotton to seek second term on Commissioners Court

Precinct 2 Commissioner Ron Cotton has announced that he will seek a second four-year term.

A former board member of the Acton Municipal Utility District (AMUD), Cotton said that he has “gained invaluable knowledge and experience regarding our county’s issues and concerns.”

He stated, “It has been an honor and privilege to serve as commissioner and I look forward to continuing to advocate for the needs of our community.”

Normally the filing period for spring primaries opens in November and closes in December. However, Elections Administrator Michele Carew said Friday that she has been told by the Secretary of State’s office to expect a change to that schedule due to redistricting delays and the need for a special session of the Legislature.

Carew said that the filing period probably will not open until February 2022 and the primary election will likely be in May instead of March.

In addition to the Precinct 2 commissioner seat, other local positions on the spring primary ballot will be: county judge; Precinct 4 commissioner; county clerk; district clerk; treasurer; county court-at-law judge; district judge; and peace justices for Precincts 2 and 3.

County Judge Ron Massingill has stated that he intends to seek a second term, and Zach Maxwell recently announced his candidacy for that position.
