The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the remains of Jennifer Pautenis from dental records provided by investigators, according to the Hood County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

The remains were discovered Dec. 4 in a rural area of Hood County where her husband Edward Pautenis led investigators.

Pautenis, 59, is in the Hood County Jail charged with his wife’s death. She was 29.

Pautenis has a million-dollar bond on a murder charge along with a tampering with evidence charge.

He and his wife were arguing at their Nassau Bay II home southeast of Granbury when his wife attacked him, according to what he told investigators. He said he shot her numerous times in self-defense.

He said he put his children to bed, cleaned up the house and dumped his wife’s body in a field.

Jennifer was missing for almost seven weeks before her body was found. Her husband claimed at the time that his wife left home with another man.

Sheriff Roger Deeds said to Channel 8 news about Pautenis: “I believe he’s a cold-blooded killer. Maybe his temper got to him that day. We won’t really know, but you don’t pick up three different weapons just to make sure you get the job done.”
