Early voting for the May 7 special election will begin Monday, April 25, and will run through Tuesday, May 3.

The ballot includes two Granbury ISD propositions totaling $394 million.

Also included are two state propositions and, for some local voters, city elections.

Early voting will take place at two locations: Annex 1, 1410 W. Pearl St., and Acton United Methodist Church, 3433 Fall Creek Highway.

Days and hours are Monday, April 25 to Friday, April 29, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, April 30, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, May 1, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Monday and Tuesday, May 2-3, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Plans proposed by GISD’s Long-Range Planning Committee, composed of members of the community, are intended to equip the school district with campuses that will be able to accommodate the district’s growth for years to come at the lowest cost possible.

If approved, the school district will build a new high school and athletic facilities in a more centralized location and repurpose and remodel existing campuses.

Proposition A ($355 million) is to pay for school facilities and land. Proposition B ($39 million) is to pay for athletic stadiums.

Approval would mean a property tax rate increase of about 20 cents per $100 valuation, although the county’s rapid growth is expected to lower that amount in future budget cycles.

Details about the bond can be found at https://www.granburyisd.org/Page/22504

State Proposition 1 authorizes the legislature to “provide for the reduction of the amount of a limitation on the total amount of ad valorem taxes that may be imposed for general elementary and secondary public school purposes on the residence homestead of a person who is elderly or disabled to reflect any statutory reduction from the preceding tax year in the maximum compressed rate of the maintenance and operations taxes imposed for those purposes on the homestead.”

State Proposition 2 increases the amount of the residence homestead exemption from ad valorem taxation for public school purposes from $25,000 to $40,000.

The May 7 election will include races for the cities of Lipan and Cresson.

In Lipan, Mike Stowe and Tim Ross are competing for mayor.

In Cresson, seats two and four are on the ballot.

Seat two candidates are Roy Doolin and Dana Perdue. Seat four contenders are Jack Farr and Bambi Bridges.
