Posted

Seventeen new firefighters graduated from the Granbury Volunteer Fire Department Fire Academy on Saturday, June 3.

The men and women attended Saturday classes at the Academy over a period of several months.

The rookie firefighters will serve at five of the county’s nine volunteer fire departments: Cresson, DeCordova, Indian Harbor, Oak Trail Shores, Tolar, and Granbury. Two graduates will serve at volunteer fire departments in Bluff Dale and Morgan Mill, which are in Erath County.

Following the graduation ceremony, the graduates demonstrated for their friends and family members their ability to fight structure fires, propane tank fires, and vehicle fires.

According to a news release from the GVFD, many of the county’s volunteer fire departments supported the Fire Academy by providing instructors. Training Lieutenant Diego Guerrero thanked the instructors for their commitment in helping to train the newest class of firefighters.

The next Fire Academy will begin in the fall. Those interested should contact the GVFD online at GVFD.org or call Granbury’s Station No. 1 at 817-579-1111.
