It’s official.

Granbury’s Marine Corps JROTC has received its Orion national championship banner and a Most Valuable Player award for shooter Caroline Martin.

Granbury captured its third-straight Orion Precision Champions Division League national championship in December with a third-straight perfect season by defeating Lafayette Gun Club 2,449.3 to 2,422.3. The victory racked up a perfect 10-0 season as recent U.S. Naval Academy commit Parker Haydin posted a score of 618.2 to top all shooters.

Hayden may have posted the day’s top mark, but it was Martin’s consistency over 10 total matches that earned her the league’s Most Valuable Player/Shooter award.

“I’m very impressed with how Martin has shot – she has been working hard in the range on her time off, and it is showing – she is an anchor for the team, as we get ready for Service and All Service Nationals,” Lt. Col (Ret.) Scott Casey said.”

With a third Orion national title under its belt, Granbury will seek its 5th straight All-Service Nationals national championship under Casey’s coaching.

“This was a good warm-up for our Service National Championships next month in Arizona,” Casey said. “The team is hitting on all cylinders – shooting some of the best scores in the past ten years.”

Against Lafayette, Haydin’s 618.2 was the top score, followed by Martin with 614.4; Sarah Folsom 608.5 (West Point commitment); Ashton Arlington 608.2; and Sunnee Schumann 605.2

The remaining contributing members were Tye Foster, Julia Czernik, Cadince McGrath, Kaylynn Slaughter, Kameron Wells, Kennedy Wells.
