Renewal

Posted

I run the risk of frosting my buddies by publishing the following piece, but that’s okay.

Us guys, after all, could show a little more tenderness toward our better halves.

I was slinking around the courthouse the other day and noticed retired justice of the peace Judy Bolton Watson standing in the lobby. She was waiting on a couple who wanted to renew their wedding vows.

The couple, David and Lisa Averitt, are new residents to Granbury.

They wanted the short, casual ceremony in the courthouse because of their love of architecture and the building’s historical significance in the community.

Why did you renew your marriage vows?

We had originally planned to renew our wedding vows on our 20th anniversary (two years away), but decided to use this unique opportunity to not only reaffirm the sacred vows we made on July 14, 2001, but also celebrate our new home and recent relocation to our adopted hometown.

In today’s society, we sincerely hope that our recent decision to reaffirm our vows and marriage commitment to one another will potently serve as an inspiration to others who are in love as much as we are and appreciate the emotional value to not only each other, but ourselves individually as well.

David you are a former mayor of what city?

I served the citizens of Haltom City in elective office for a total of 15 years; 11 as City Council member (1993-1995, 2000-2004, 2010-2015) and four as mayor (2015-2019).

Why did you guys decide to relocate to Granbury?

Lisa and I have always been drawn to Granbury and the surrounding area, primarily because of its people. They have a very generous spirit and always make us feel welcome, as if we lived here our entire life.

Where did you first meet?

Lisa and I first met in the fifth grade, when we were both 12 years old and attended the same elementary school in Haltom City.

Tell me a little about yourselves.

Lisa and I are both lifelong residents of Haltom City, having grown up only two blocks apart. Lisa graduated from the Birdville Independent School District (BISD) while I attended a local private school.

After graduation, Lisa pursued a career in the local entertainment industry. She was crowned Miss Dallas/ Fort Worth and used her platform to educate and inspire young girls to stay on the right track, make good grades, and use their minds and talents to realize their dreams and goals. In 1993 Lisa went to Purvis Real Estate School and began working with her mother, Darlene Vaught, who was a Realtor in the Dallas/Fort Worth real estate market. I first worked for my father in his commercial/residential rental property business before becoming a real estate broker in 1999 and opening my own business.

Since our marriage in 2001, Lisa and I have owned and operated Averitt Realty, our successful family-owned commercial and residential real estate business and have been richly blessed and will be forever grateful for the opportunities God has provided.
