Republicans schedule candidate forums

The Republican Party of Hood County and the local Republican Club have joined forces to sponsor candidate forums ahead of the March 1 primary.

The ballot will be crowded.

The forums will offer an opportunity for voters to hear each candidates’ views on issues and to meet them in person.

The schedule and locations are listed below. Names are in ballot order.

County Judge

Date: Thursday, Jan. 20

Location: Granbury City Council chamber, 116 W. Bridge St.

Time: 6 p.m.

Candidates are Kelly Van Buren, Ron Massingill, Mark A. Jackson, and Mark Shackelford.

County Commissioners, Precincts 2 and 4

Date: Thursday, Jan. 20

Location: Granbury City Council chamber, 116 W. Bridge St.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Candidates for Precinct 2 commissioner are Ron Cotton and Nannette Samuelson.

Candidates for Precinct 4 commissioner at Dave Eagle and Zachary Maxwell.

Party Chair

Date: Tuesday, Jan. 25

Location: Brazos Covenant Ministries, 1950 Acton Hwy.

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Candidates are David Fischer and Steve Biggers

County Court-at-Law Judge

Date: Thursday, Feb. 3

Location: Granbury City Council chamber, 116 W. Bridge St.

Time: 6 p.m.

Candidates are Shelly Fowler O’Toole and Richard Hattox.

District Judge, 355th Judicial District

Date: Thursday, Feb. 3

Location: Granbury City Council chamber, 116 W. Bridge St.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Candidates are Vincent J. Messina and Bryan Bufkin

County Clerk

Date: Tuesday, Feb. 8

Location: Brazos Covenant Ministries, 1950 Acton Hwy.

Time: 6 p.m.

Candidates are Katie Lang, Aaron Ellis, Michele Carew, and Becky Swindle

Justice of the Peace, Precincts 2 and 3

Date: Tuesday, Feb. 8

Location: Brazos Covenant Ministries, 1950 Acton Hwy.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Candidates for Precinct 2 are Jeff Kelley and Martin Castillo. Candidates for Precinct 3 are Michelle London, Wayne Baker, Jr., and Stephen Barnett.

The filing period for precinct chairs will open on Saturday, Jan. 15 and will run through Saturday, Feb. 12.

Precinct chair elections will take place on May 24, which is when primary runoffs will be held.

Applications to vote by mail in the spring primary are now being accepted.

The last day to register to vote is Monday, Jan. 31.

Early voting will take place Feb. 14-18 and Feb. 21-25 at Annex 1, 1410 W. Pearl St.
