Pirates top Grapevine in first game of baseball playoff series

Senior pitcher Taylor Calcote threw a complete-game two-hitter as the Granbury Pirates defeated Grapevine 3-1 tonight (Thursday, May 6) at Tidwell Field at GHS in the opener of their best-of-three Class 5A bi-district baseball playoff series. The 22-8 Pirates will play Game 2 in Grapevine Friday night (May 7), starting at 7:30. If a third game is needed, it's scheduled to be played at Tidwell Field in Granbury on Saturday (May 8), with a 12:30 p.m. start. Calcote, a Wichita State University signee, improved his 2021 pitching record to 5-0.
