Carll "Briscoe" Dunn

Posted

Carll "Briscoe"Dunn, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, went home to rest in the gentle arms of our Lord on Friday, September 13, 2019. Briscoe was born August 19, 1938, in Ft. Worth, Tx. He was adopted into the loving home of his parents, H.B. and Dorothy Dunn of San Angelo, Tx. An only child, he grew up surrounded by a large extended family, with many cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Briscoe graduated from Central High School in San Angelo, and attended San Angelo College, as well as Tarleton State University later in life. He served in the U.S. Navy, Yeoman Second Class Petty Officer, from 1957 to 1961. In 1963, while working for Armour and Company in San Angelo as Plant Controller and Personnel Manager, Briscoe met and married the love of his life, Letty Autrey on June 29, 1963. Together they danced through many challenges of life, lived adventures, and made family their priority.

He spent 40 years in the insurance business in Granbury, Tx., where in his true entrepreneurial spirit, he owned his own agency for much of that time. Briscoe had a passion for his work, and especially loved helping people, advising and educating his clients, making friends along the way, while becoming a mentor to so many. He found great fulfillment later in his career by advising seniors on Medicare insurance products, actively working until a few months before his death.

He was very active as a community leader and volunteer, including serving on the Hood County YMCA board for 7 years, past president of the Hood County Republican Club, and volunteering with Relay for Life for many years. He was a member of Tx. Assoc. of Health Underwriters, and held different offices in the local chapter, Ft. Worth Assoc. of Health Underwriters. He received several awards by these associations, but felt his greatest reward was in the friendships provided by these groups.

Briscoe loved going dancing, fishing, and hunting, all of these especially with his family. He also enjoyed playing poker, and organized regular poker games and tournaments for years. He considered his family his greatest blessing.

Briscoe was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife of 56 years, Letty, daughters Kikee Kupper and husband Eric, of Aledo, and Koree Massey and husband Steve of Granbury, as well as five grandchildren: Dustin Massey, Kaitlyn Kupper Evers and husband Ryan, Lauren Massey, Kristyn Kupper, and Kamryn Kupper. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins will also miss him, as well as his beloved dog, Panda.

A memorial service in celebration of Briscoe's life will be held in the chapel at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury at 2pm on Friday, September 20th. A donation in Briscoe's memory may be made to: Hood County Cancer Services P.O. Box 221, Granbury, TX 76048 or Hood County YMCA.
