Artists: Soul of our nation in their hands

Posted

GRANBURY CULTURAL ARTS

Stacey Watkins-Martin and Cora Werley are local artists and members with several others of the Granbury Cultural Arts Commission. Both work diligently with many other people and organizations to promote Granbury as the exciting arts destination it has become.

Food for thought from a friend: Artists hold the soul of our nation in their hands…. A trip to our nation’s capital brought so clearly to mind that people have been created with amazing artistic talent to glorify their Creator but also to record the history of their people. Our capital has spent significant time and energy throughout the years on carefully, skillfully, and intentionally crafted art and its display. And that’s something we can emulate – right here in Granbury. We have so many talented local artists that we can celebrate and motivate as the voice of our cultural arts. When people visit us, we want them to see who we are, to know our history, and to understand how we value artists who are willing to settle in, establish themselves and create here.

Of course, for that to happen, we must help our current and upcoming generations understand that their artistic talents are valuable and have a purpose – to pass along the beauty and light in the world. Art should nourish souls, reach hearts, share the blessings we have with others and draw us together.

But artists have not been just creators but also history keepers since the dawn of time. Without their contributions, we would not know what historical figures looked like and what their faces reveal about them as people. Even the historical record of structures from thousands of years ago – think tabernacle and pyramids – live on in this age because artists equipped with talent, drive and direction gave their lives to create them and to record their history and meaning.

We in Granbury really enjoy people coming to see us – our lake, our square and the beautiful art we share in our Courthouse, City Hall, Opera House and outdoor sculpture locations, among many other places – and are looking forward to sharing projects coming to fruition in the next couple of years.

Get involved with the energy art creates here. Join the GAA (Granbury Art Alliance) – you don’t have to be an artist, just support art. It’s a great way to strengthen cultural arts here as different organizations interact with each other. For example, coming up is our Granbury Cultural Arts Commission’s call for artists – we need talented people to translate what Granbury is into our first two projects: the Out of the Box Arts and the Opera House Windows, for which monetary contributions are of course also appreciated. Check out GAA on Facebook; donate your resources of time and money.
