PECAN PLANTATION BITS

A Mississippi native who has been a Texas transplant for 27 years, Diane Long is a wife, mother, and English teacher who has written Pecan Plantation Bits for 14 years cumulatively. She spends her time both gathering neighborhood news and teaching students how to avoid passive voice.

Pecan Plantation residents have one last opportunity to participate in a 2021fundraiser supporting our community’s emergency volunteers.

The Pecan Plantation VFD/Emergency Medical Service Auxiliary’s casserole and holiday bake sale is happening today, Saturday, Dec. 4, beginning at 10 a.m. at the PAC and continue until all items are sold.

Shoppers will want to arrive early for the best selection of hearty, oven-ready, frozen casseroles and soups in addition to a variety of homemade candies and tasty baked goods. Many items will be wrapped and/or decorated for gift giving or parties.

Patty Eatmon (951-970-5490) and Shirley Jairett (530-401-4936) are co-chairs of this important, final fundraiser of the year and are available to answer questions or provide more information about bake sale day.

Every penny raised today benefits Pecan’s emergency response groups, and the auxiliary also looks forward to its presentation of funds for this year, in addition to giving yearly awards, at its upcoming Christmas party.

ART TIME

Pecan resident and artist Heidi Easley returns to the PAC today, Saturday, Dec. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. for a “sleigh ride paint party.” The event promises fun, prizes, and music as participants create a holiday wooden sled.

Spots are limited to 20, and registration is a must: 817-573-7952.

SLEIGH RIDE

Santa and his horses are coming to Pecan on Sunday, Dec. 5 from 1-4 p.m. when our community stables will hold an open house.

Photos, horse rides, crafts, and holiday refreshments are on the menu for this fundraiser ($15 per vehicle), and the proceeds will benefit Pecan’s equestrian center.

GOLF TIME

Pecan’s golf course will be busy next week.

The Ladies’ Golf Association will enjoy its Christmas party on Tuesday, Dec. 7 beginning at 9 a.m., and the annual Toys for Tots tournament will happen Saturday, Dec. 11 beginning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

HOLIDAY HOMES

The Pecan Plantation Woman’s Club’s annual Christmas Tour of Homes will happen Thursday, Dec. 9, and this very popular event encompasses an entire day of holiday merriment.

Santa’s workshop and bakery running from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the clubhouse will begin the festivities, and come and go touring of beautifully decorated homes will last from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Brunch and dinner options may also be purchased with tour packages, and folks may choose their preferred option at www.myppwc.com.

The PPWC ladies use the funds generated from this holiday activity to support their chosen philanthropies, club projects, and scholarship fund.

LOOKING GOOD

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around Pecan Plantation thanks to hardworking folks who have decorated our community so well.

Much gratitude goes to Mary Scott and the band of volunteers who transformed the PAC into a Christmas wonderland. Furthermore, the Green Thumb Garden Club has created holiday magic at both the front and back circles so that folks coming and going enjoy festive sights.

HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS

Sunday, Dec. 18 will be a full day of Christmas merriment in the Pecan Plantation clubhouse ballroom.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Santa Claus (along with his elves) will be present for photos. Hot chocolate, cookies, and holiday crafts will also be a part of this come and go event to which all ages are welcome.

Then from 6 to 9 p.m., “Cocktails and Candy Canes” will take place with beverages for sale and complimentary hors d’oeuvres (along with holiday music) available to attendees. Reservations for the evening event are requested: 817-573-2641.

FASHION SUCCESS

Pecan’s Woman’s Club sends thanks to everyone who participated in its recent fall fashion show: the models, the local merchants, and especially to Susan Potter and her diligent committee. Attendance at the event was a strong 180 members and guests, all of whom were delighted with the day’s program.

CHEERFUL NOTES

Furthermore, Claudette Lewis on behalf of the PPWC oversees sending notes of cheer to members who could use a message of encouragement. Know of a Woman’s Club member needing to receive such a greeting? Send contact information to Claudette at originaldesigntx@gmail.com.

SYMPATHY

Our deepest sympathy goes to the family of Pam Hastings who passed away Nov. 15.
