Auxiliary sponsored fall bazaar fundraiser a success for emergency volunteers

 PECAN PLANTATION BITS

A Mississippi native who has been a Texas transplant for 27 years, Diane Long is a wife, mother, and English teacher who has written Pecan Plantation Bits for 14 years cumulatively. She spends her time both gathering neighborhood news and teaching students how to avoid passive voice.

Despite a wet start to the day, the Pecan Plantation Volunteer Fire Department/Emergency Medical Service Auxiliary sponsored fall bazaar found great success with patrons in our community.

According to auxiliary member Lana Robinson, the group thanks the multitude of folks who made the day happen. Much gratitude goes to the outstanding artisans, crafters, vendors, and organizations who participated in the event. Thanks also to  the volunteers, Pecan residents, and people of the community who shopped and bought raffle tickets in support of the neighborhood’s emergency service volunteers.

When proceeds from the day were counted, almost $7,500 had been raised, and as Lana says, “We are beyond grateful!”

Auxiliary vice president Joy Rice and Vicki Paxton co-chaired the event, and they, in conjunction with their committee members, dedicated long hours before, during, and after bazaar day alongside fellow auxiliary members and VFD/EMS personnel to complete all tasks necessary for the gathering to happen. Joi Keahey, Sports and Recreation Supervisor, and the PAC staff also top the list for folks responsible for the day’s success.

After missing the 2020 bazaar, the 2021 edition was a welcome sight, and plans for 2022 will begin shortly. The auxiliary will meet again on Monday, Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the PAC, and all ladies and gentlemen interested in this group that fundraises for Pecan’s emergency volunteers are welcome to attend.

SOCIAL TIME

Tonight, Saturday, Oct. 23, holds a “MASH 4077 Camp” themed evening that will include a costume contest, trivia competition, music, and dancing. Attendees are encouraged to dress the part and might want to check out television “reruns” for attire ideas. Pecan’s conscientious entertainment committee has worked diligently to prepare for the evening.

In addition, Friday, Oct. 29 will bring a “jam with Pecan” session at the golf pavilion from 7 to 11 p.m. Live music and karaoke will comprise the night. Musicians interested in playing with the band may contact Gary Millhollon at 505-710-5100, and vocalists wanting to partake in karaoke should reach out to Jimmy DeLaGarza at 214-280-6497.

PAINT PARTY

Pecan resident and accomplished artist Heidi Easley will lead the instruction for a kids’ Halloween painting event tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 24, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the PAC. Artists ages 5-14 are invited to sign up as spots are limited: 817-573-7952. Participants will leave with a finished canvas painting of a Halloween scene.

BREAKFAST CLUB

The next gathering of Pecan’s Breakfast Club comes on Wednesday, Oct. 27 when Detective Anthony White of the Fort Worth Police Department will address the group concerning human trafficking. Reservations are requested and may be secured by calling the clubhouse front desk: 817-573-2641.

TAKE AIM

Pecan’s annual Halloween pumpkin shoot will happen on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at our community’s archery/air gun range. Residents ages 8-13 may sign up at the PAC to participate, and all partakers should be able to shoot independently as this is not a teaching event.

A sweet note about the event is that abundant prizes composed of Halloween candy will be awarded when marksmen hit pumpkin targets.

SPOOKY SEASON

The PAC will be hosting a Halloween party and Trunk or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 2-4 p.m. The day will include a haunted house, crafts, costume contest, games, and a balloon animal-making clown. Many hands are needed for this task, and willing workers are welcome.

Visit the PAC front desk to find a volunteer spot for this festive holiday event: 817-573-7952.
