Christmas: ‘Tis the season to recognize the gift of art

Posted

GRANBURY CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION

Stacey Watkins-Martin and Cora Werley are local artists and members with several others of the Granbury Cultural Arts Commission. Both work diligently with many other people and organizations to promote Granbury as the exciting arts destination it has become.

As those who love the creativity of artists, how blessed we are to be free to celebrate the original Creator in this season. In the bliss of Christmas festivities honoring the birth of our Savior Jesus, let’s remember the Lord-created artists who share their voices with us all year around — gifts of dance, song, acting, writing, painting, sculpting, making music, and myriad other talents.

Our community has the joy and honor of helping to promote and bring light to our local artists by seeking out all things art in Granbury: by going to performances, buying original artwork, joining art organizations that support the arts and artists, and especially inviting friends and family to try all of our fabulous artistic experiences.

When we buy a handmade original piece of art, share a musical or theatrical experience, or break bread together at a favorite spot, we not only support the specific arts, but help our entire local art community thrive. And even help support our city’s economy. It gives our creative life-givers more energy and confidence to create more. It may attract even more artists to join us here where they feel welcome. It might even start a fire in someone by giving them the courage to explore their God-given gifts. Hmmm, maybe it’s you! Give yourself the gift this Christmas of exploring your own creativity. More art equals more beauty, peace, joy, color and excitement in our world.

As examples, in the month of December alone, we have had and will have so many choices:

D’Vine Wine (Gallery Night with Irish Music)

Your Private Collection Art Gallery (Annual Holiday Open House)

The New Granbury Live (An Elvis Christmas, Texas Flood A Bluesy Christmas, A Michael Hix Christmas Party, William Lee Martin’s Return of the Nutcrackers, the Everly Brothers Experience Christmas Show, Janie Frickie A Cowgirl Country Christmas, and A Malpass Brothers Christmas)

Brian Clowdus Experience (The Christmas Carol)

Art and Letters Bookstore (Santa’s Reading Room)

Granbury Memorial Lane (sculptures)

Granbury Candlelight Tour of Homes

Granbury Civic Chorus (From Hollywood to Bethlehem)

Granbury Opera House (Miracle on 34th Street, The Nutcracker)

Warren’s Backyard (annual jingles with JetBlacq Christmas Show)

Brazos Chamber Orchestra Christmas Series

Granbury Community Band Christmas Concert

Granbury Jazz Orchestra Christmas Concert

Lake Granbury Art Association (Winter Show at the Shanley House)

Langdon Center Concert Hall (Away in the Manger:  Nativity display)

That doesn’t even include crafts at the Farmers Market on the Square, the museums, and all the art available in the shops on and around the Historic Square.

We are flooded with talent and want to hear, see, taste and share what you are creating. The Granbury Cultural Arts Commission (GranburyArts) particularly needs to identify artists who live and/or work in the community as part of our application to become a Texas Commission on the Arts Cultural District.

Please send all helpful info to the authors below. Granbury is already a fabulous art community . . . now let’s come together and show where we are headed.
