PECAN PLANTATION BITS

A Mississippi native who has been a Texas transplant for 26 years, Diane Long is a wife, mother and English teacher who has written Pecan Plantation Bits for 13 years cumulatively. She spends her time gathering neighborhood news and teaching students how to avoid passive voice.

The Pecan Plantation Woman’s Club will gather again on Thursday, April 21 when the theme for the day will be “Spring Spectacular.” Social time begins at 9:30 a.m. with President Annelle Teal calling the meeting to order at 10 a.m. Following the business meeting, ladies will enjoy a spring fashion show with clothing provided by local merchants.

EASTER ACTIVITIES

Easter brings a full schedule to Pecan with numerous activities on the calendar.

Today, April 16, the annual Easter egg hunt will commence at 10 a.m. sharp at the PAC. Egg hunters ages 0 to 12 will be divided into age groups. This free event will include door prizes and an opportunity to visit with the Easter bunny

GOOD SHOT

Next comes an egg shoot at the archery/air gun range also today, April 16, beginning at 2 p.m. Participants ages 13 and over who can shoot independently are invited to bring their own equipment and join the day.

Entry fee is $5 for unlimited shots at money-filled eggs, and shooters keep the loot found in prize eggs.

EASTER BUFFET

On Easter Sunday, April 17, the clubhouse will host a meal with seatings on the half hour from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations are required and may be secured by calling the clubhouse front desk, 817-573-2641.

WELCOME HOME

A new member orientation is happening Tuesday, April 19 at 10 a.m. at the clubhouse ballroom. Members of the Membership Committee will be on hand to provide information and answer questions for new residents.

GENEALOGY GROUP

The Pecan Plantation Genealogy Group will meet Thursday, April 21 at 10 a.m. at the Granbury Church of Christ. Everyone is welcome, and if folks are unable to attend the meeting in person, they may join via WebEx. To be added to the email distribution list (and receive a virtual invitation), contact Ronda Bauman at rondabauman@sbcglobal.net.

The speaker for the event is writer, podcaster and researcher extraordinaire Lisa Louise Cooke. She will present the latest and best search innovations for genealogy work.

SUPPORT GROUP

A widows/widowers support group will gather for dinner at 6 p.m. in the Terrace Room of the clubhouse on Thursday, April 21. This meeting offers an opportunity for Pecan residents to encourage each other. RSVP to 214-907-7563 by Monday, April 11.

GARAGE SALE

Pecan’s annual spring garage sale weekend is coming soon, and folks who would like to be included on a distribution list for shoppers should send email (sarahlord@ppoaweb.com) or call (817-573-2641) before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20. The compiled list will be distributed at both gates on sale day as well as being available to members via Pecan’s website.

Friday, April 22 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. is the “members only” time to shop, and Saturday, April 23 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. will hold sale hours for both members and guests.

In addition, Pecan groups will be holding fundraisers by selling food at various locations in the community.

SPLISH SPLASH

With the arrival of April, the PAC pool is now open, and hours for this month are 7:30 a.m. to sunset. Lifeguards will not be on duty until late May, and since the water temperature is cool right now, swimmers are advised to be cautious when using the pool. Guest fee for non-members is $4 per person and may be paid at the PAC reception desk until lifeguards are present for collection. Swimming rules and reminders are posted on the pool grounds.

POOCH PLANTATION

Pooch Plantation, Pecan’s off-leash dog park located behind the PAC, is happy to host canines and their owners since the spring weather is upon us.

Two areas of the park exist, one for large dogs (over 30 pounds) and small dogs, and each side has its own fenced area. While small dogs and their owners are allowed to visit in the large dog area, large dogs are requested to stay in their designated space. In addition, picking up after dogs is a request to ensure tidy park upkeep. Upon entering Pooch Plantation, owners assume responsibility for the actions of themselves, their pets and their guests. FOPP (Friends of Pooch Plantation) maintains the park and appreciates folks taking steps to keep the dog park safe and enjoyable.

SYMPATHY

Our deepest sympathy goes to the family of Mike Hart who passed away March 27, to the family of Larry Lee who passed away April 2, and to the family of Frances Simmons who passed away April 2.
