Barbara Ann Speer Haberthur, “Mamaw,” 91, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, Dec. 18, 2025, in Granbury, Texas.

Barbara Ann was born June 28, 1934, in Dallas, Texas, to the late Leo and Anna Ruth Speer. Early on, she helped manage and operate her family-owned grocery store in Dickens. Always a competitive equestrian, Barbara won a rodeo scholarship to attend Hardin-Simmons University. As a bank teller in Lubbock, she met Charles. On August 23, 1959, she married the “love of her life,” Charles Haberthur. This is when Barbara believed “her life began.”

Barbara and her husband, Charles, moved often. A devoted homemaker, she made every place they moved to feel like home. She also loved working as a kindergarten teacher. Barbara had many interests, including baking, reading, puzzles, and playing bridge and games. She shared all of these passions with her grandkids. Barbara served as president of the Woman’s Club of Pecan Plantation and was active in her community. Additionally, she was a long-time member of Acton Methodist Church, where she served faithfully. Most of all, Barbara will be remembered as being a loving wife, mother, and the ultimate “Mamaw” to her beloved family.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 66 years, Charles Haberthur; her children, daughter Patricia Sabandal (Bryant) and son Chuck Haberthur (Dawn); grandchildren: Anna, Rachel, Sara, Allison, and Brandon; great-grandchildren: Anthony, Adon, Ariella, Amos, Tommy, Elliott and Lona; and by her special aunt, Doris White.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and beloved grandparents.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, at the Wiley Funeral Home Chapel, 400 Highway 377 East in Granbury. Family and friends will gather for a reception at Aviva Senior Living, 2300 Paluxy Highway at noon in the Great Room. Burial will be private.
