Bill G. Prince passed from this life on March 31, 2025, after a bout with cancer. He was born on October 5, 1936, in a rural area near Boyd, Texas. He was the second of four children born to John Vernon and Ruby Prince.
A celebration of his life will be held later.
From age 5 to adulthood, Bill lived on the West Side of Fort Worth, graduating from Arlington Heights High School, where he was active in athletics. He then attended the University of North Texas and later graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.
While attending the University of North Texas he met and quickly married his life mate, Rita Allen, from Denton, Texas. During their 68 years of marriage, they had three sons, David, Jeffrey, and Russell.
Bill’s lifetime career was in banking. He began that career with the First National Bank in Fort Worth, later serving as president and chairman of the board of the First National Bank in Arlington, Texas and the Lufkin National Bank in Lufkin, Texas. He retired after 35 years in banking and moved to Granbury. He re-entered the banking world for 12 additional years with Community Bank in Granbury.
At the age of 42, he was injured in a hunting accident resulting in an above-knee amputation. This, and an encounter with another amputee, Frank CdeBaca, led to a love of snow skiing. He became a very accomplished downhill skier on one leg and traveled to many well-known resorts, enjoying the challenge and teaching other disabled men and women to ski.
Bill also spent many hours dedicated to the Texas Golden Gloves. He served many years as the tournament director of the Fort Worth Regional Golden Gloves and the Texas Golden Gloves State Championship tournaments.
Bill and Rita are members of the Acton Baptist Church and so appreciate the love and support of the Agape Class.
Most important in their life is their family. Bill was very proud of his sons David, Jeffrey, and Russell. He also had great love for his daughter-in-law Suellen, Russell’s partner David Lackey, grandchildren Jennifer and Joshua, Joshua’s wife Jessica, and his great-grandchildren, Jax, Jett and Jovie.
He is also survived by his brother Bob Prince and spouse Alice, his sister Linda and spouse Leroy, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His other brother Johnny preceded him in death.
