Billy Joe “Scooter” Thomas, 87, of Granbury, received his heavenly reward Aug. 22, 2026. He worked as a Chamber of Commerce manager and then returned to Granbury to work alongside his father, Dub, at Dub’s Place on Granbury Square. He also enjoyed being in real estate for many years. In his retirement years, he served at Lakeside Baptist Church in custodial care. Scooter loved to tease, tell jokes, play dominoes, listen to music, vacation, read, play the piano and spend time with family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, “Kat”, and parents, Dub and Callie Thomas. He is survived by his children, Derrell Thomas and Kim Shafer (Ron); daughter-in-law, Linda Thomas; grandchildren, Kirstie Bender (James), T.W. "Trey" Thomas (Kenzie), Callie Hall (Tyler), and Andrew Shafer; and great-grandchildren, James, Noah, Beau, Hunter, Camden, Tatum and another baby boy on the way.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church of Granbury. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church's Hospitality Fund.
