Chamber to present 200 ‘welcome bags’ to new Hood County teachers

Posted

New Hood County teachers will soon be given a warm welcome from the Granbury Chamber of Commerce when they're presented with their very own bag of goodies.

As the name suggests, the “New Teacher Welcome Bags,” are bags filled with necessary school supplies for the upcoming year that are then given to new teachers at Granbury ISD, Tolar ISD, and Lipan ISD.

“We have done this in the past, where we provide bags with items from as many of our members that are willing to donate items as possible, and we drop them off prior to their new teacher orientation,” said Brian Bondy, Granbury Chamber of Commerce president. “We've also dropped them off at some of the private schools that are members of the chamber.”

Items like the Granbury Chamber of Commerce Area Guide, Granbury and Hood County maps, notepads, pens, pencils, watches, and thermal lunch boxes have been donated to the welcome bags in the past.

"Most of these teachers are coming from other communities and they don't know Granbury, so this is a terrific way for these people to be welcomed by the business community,” Bondy said. “Whether they're in Granbury, Tolar, or Lipan, they know that there's a good strong business community in Hood County, and this kind of gives them that welcome mat.”

A total of 200 bags will be stuffed with items and donated to new local teachers in the area.

If anyone would like to donate items for the welcome bags, they can bring them to the Granbury Chamber of Commerce office at 3408 E. U.S. Highway 377 by July 26.
