City Council progresses LGMC’s freestanding ER

Lake Granbury Medical Center’s plans for a free-standing emergency facility at U.S. Highway 377 and Fall Creek Highway are progressing with help from the Granbury City Council.

At the council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, June 6, the elected officials approved a variance and a preliminary plat for Granbury Hospital Corporation’s almost 64-acre tract addressed as 5601 E. U.S. Highway 377.

“This has been a long time coming,” City Manager Chris Coffman said in kicking off the discussion. He said that LGMC “has been through four hospital administrators” and that the city was “excited to get to this point.”

Following Coffman’s brief comments, details about the variance and preliminary plat were provided by Community Development Director Kira Wauwie. No questions were posed by council members following Wauwie’s presentation, and no one signed up to speak during the public hearing.

Both requests by the Granbury Hospital Corporation were unanimously approved.

The hospital announced plans for a 13-acre emergency care site on the Fort Worth side of the county earlier this year. Construction is expected to be completed next summer.

The $15 million, 10,000-square-foot building will have a major treatment room, a decontamination room, triage, an onsite laboratory, diagnostic imaging services, areas where patients can await test results, and seven exam rooms, including a negative airflow room to contain the spread of airborne infections. There will be a parking lot large enough for a medical helicopter to land.

LGMC’s additional, freestanding ER on the northeast side of town will serve patients with emergency and potentially life-threatening conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, head injuries, fractures, abdominal pain, respiratory issues, and more.

The facility will accept the same insurance plans as LGMC’s main campus, including commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid.
