City moves to voluntary Stage 1 Water Conservation

The city of Granbury is no longer under mandatory water restrictions following the city’s implementation of a voluntary Stage 1 Water Conservation on Sept. 11.

Due to the continuation of drought conditions, the city of Granbury was previously under a Stage 2 Water Conservation, which put limitations on lawn care, washing vehicles, and pools. Stage 2 Conservation is for moderate water shortage conditions and became effective on Aug. 11.

But after a month, many residents reduced their water usage, which led the city to move from Stage 2 to Stage 1 Water Conservation.

“The city has a water plan and in that are the different stages or steps and those are based on usage. What we have found is the usage has declined enough that we can go from Stage 2 to Stage 1,” explained Jeff Newpher, communications manager for the city of Granbury. “We needed people to conserve more water and they did that.”

City of Granbury Water customers are asked to voluntarily reduce water usage for lawn irrigation by following this schedule:

• If your home address ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8, only water on Sunday and Thursday between 12:01 a.m. and 10 a.m. or between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.
• If your home address ends in 1 ,3, 5, 7, or 9, only water on Wednesday and Saturday between 12:01 a.m. and 10 a.m. or between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.

There is no specific voluntary conservation request for any other activity using city water, but residents are asked to please keep conservation in mind.

“Stage 1 is voluntary, and we’re just asking people to please continue to water on the odd and even days on the schedule,” Newpher said.

If residents have a well or can draw water from Lake Granbury, they are able to use those sources for lawn watering or for any other use on any day they desire.
