Posted

A slate of contenders filed to run in the Nov. 8 city and school elections that will take place in Granbury and Tolar.

The filing period closed Monday.

On the Granbury City Council, terms are expiring for Mayor Jim Jarratt and Place 2’s Eddie Rodriquez. Both filed for re-election and both drew opponents.

Jarratt will be challenged by former Mayor Pro Tem Tony Mobly. Rodriquez will compete against Pat Abell, a member of the city’s Public Television Channel Advisory Board.

Three terms are expiring on the GISD Board of Trustees and there is competition for all three seats.

School Board president Barbara Townsend of Place 6 and Paula McDonald of Place 7 are seeking new terms. Mark Jackson of Place 5 is not.

Mark Graves, Terry Louvin and Billy Wimberly are vying to fill the Place 5 seat.

Townsend is being challenged by Jeff Hastings, who recently resigned as GISD’s director of security and now works for the Sheriff’s Office.

McDonald will face Karen Lowery on the ballot.

TOLAR CITY, ISD

Longtime Tolar Mayor Terry Johnson will not be seeking another term.

Mayor Pro Tem Matt Hutsell of Place 1 and Donald Ives will compete for that seat.

Place 4 incumbent Brian Gall and Kevin Fron of Place 5 filed for re-election.

Fron is unchallenged but Gall has competition from Kacy Brown.

On the Tolar school board, three terms are expiring but only one seat is contested.

Place 5 incumbent Dalton Nix and Place 6 incumbent Wendy Bonnell are unopposed for new terms.

Justin Deaver of Place 7 will face off against Kimberly Miller and Wayne Wienecke.

The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 8 General Election is Tuesday, Oct. 11.
