Dalah Hord Tucker 1939 – 2026

Posted

Dalah Hord Tucker, age 86, of Granbury, Texas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family July 23, 2026.

Born Oct. 20, 1939, in Winters, Texas, Dalah was the beloved daughter of Louis B. and Gladys Harris Hord. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved spouse Joe W. Tucker, all of her seven siblings, and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dalah was a devoted spouse where she was often referred as “Dad’s right-hand man,” so now she will lie beside him in that honored position throughout eternity. She was a much-loved mother to Cynethia (Cindy) Tucker Harbour and her son-in-law, Hugh Harbour, a wonderful grandparent to Lacey Harbour Smith and Bryan Smith, and her daughter of choice, LaDonna Truelock, along with many nieces and nephews she helped raise, love, and claimed them as her own. She was often heard saying the good Lord only gave her one, so she could help raise others.

Dalah was always the room mother while Cindy was in school, and a theatre and choir advocate as well. She was also a certified nurseryman working at Wolfe Nursery for close to 20 years. She and Joe opened three businesses in Odessa, Texas, where they lived together for over 60 years: Tucker Pipe Service, JT Rentals and Tucker Hot Shot Service, where she was the treasurer and major support to Joe.

Dalah held her CDL license in case a truck was needed on location, and her pilot training just in case Dad needed help landing their planes.

She will always be remembered for her work in various churches, the home of the Friday night unlimited spaghetti bowl for all the neighborhood kids, and decades as the kitchen bereavement help at Greenfield Acres Baptist Church in Odessa, her beloved church home for many years.

After losing “her Joe,” she and the family moved to Granbury, Texas, where she became a member of Acton Baptist Church and attended faithfully until her health declined. She loved her Sunday School class and the smiles of the members.

Whenever anyone asked what she wanted to be remembered by, she always said, “That I loved my Jesus, that I thanked him daily for all of my blessings, and that I diligently worked toward winning hearts to my Lord.” She was a woman who prayed from the heart and whose love for her Savior was evident to all present. She will be missed.

The family acknowledges the loving support of Enhabit Home Hospice for their assistance in her final months.

Visitation for Dalah will be Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 5-7 pm at Wiley Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 1, 2026, starting at 2:30 pm at Wilmeth Cemetery, FM383, Winters, Texas 79567.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Greenfield Acres Baptist Church, Odessa, Texas, in honor of Dalah Tucker.

Services under the care and consideration of Wiley Funeral Home, Granbury, Texas.
