Dana Mathis Johnson 1956 – 2026

Dana Mathis Johnson, age 70, passed away peacefully July 11, 2026, at Aviva Nursing Home in Granbury, Texas, surrounded by her family.

Born on June 19, 1956, in Lubbock, Texas, to Shirley Mitchell and Ned Mathis, Dana was also lovingly raised by her stepfather, Roy Mitchell. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth, humor and strength touched many lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Shirley Mitchell and Ned Mathis; her stepfather, Roy Mitchell; and her sister, Dona Stearns and brother-in-law, Dennis Stearns.

Dana is survived by her husband, Ronald Joseph Johnson; her sons, Michael Deshawn Denton and William Joseph Denton; her granddaughters, Patience DeAnn Denton and Maddy Lynn Denton; her sister, Debbie Perkins; her brother, Larry Mathis and his wife Karen; and many extended family members and friends.

Dana worked hard throughout her life, including as a beautician, a custodian at Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant, and a machinist at FMC in Stephenville, where she earned the respect of her coworkers. She also cared for individuals with special needs, reflecting her compassion and kindness. Above all, she loved her family and found joy in simple pleasures, especially time with loved ones, Yahtzee, crafts, hummingbirds, horses and barrel racing.

Dana will be remembered for her strong work ethic, creativity, laughter and deep love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Ibba bebba lubn youba.

And in our hearts, we will always hear her answer:

Service to be held at Wiley's Funeral Home July 20 at 2 p.m. Reception will be held across the street at Spring Creek.
