The filing period for November local elections opens next Saturday, on July 22. It will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21.
City and school elections are scheduled for Granbury and Tolar. If incumbents seek new terms and draw no challengers, elections could be cancelled, but that won’t be the case with the city of Granbury.
Mayor Pro Tem Trish Reiner of Place 4 recently announced in a Facebook post that she will not seek a third term.
“With great respect for the citizens of the City of Granbury, I am officially announcing that I will not seek re-election to Granbury City Council,” the post stated. “My six years on council have been challenging and amazing, and I am proud of many accomplishments. I have worked to represent the city with honor and integrity, and it has been my distinct pleasure to serve the community. Thank you for your support all these years.”
The Place 6 seat on the council, currently held by Greg Corrigan, is also scheduled to be on the ballot. Corrigan told the Hood County News Thursday morning that he will seek a third term out of a desire to see some projects completed. However, he added that, as a believer in term limits, if he is elected to a third term, it will be his last.
“And then someone else can pick up the mantle and run with it,” he said.
Two terms will also expire on the Granbury School Board of Trustees, those for Places 1 and 2. Place 1’s Mike Moore and Place 2’s Barbara Herrington, who is currently the school board president, told the HCN that they will seek re-election.
On the Tolar City Council, terms will end for Places 1, 2 and 3 currently held by Craig Davis, Sally Grimes and Chip Foster, respectively.
Two seats on the Tolar School Board will be on the ballot unless Place 1’s Brooks Goodson and Place 2’s Josh Swaim seek re-election and draw no challengers.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 7.
