Former Granbury mayor sentenced on third DWI charge

Former Granbury Mayor Nin Hulett was sentenced in 355^th Judicial District Court on Monday for a third DWI conviction.

According to Sheriff Roger Deeds, Hulett was booked into the Hood County Jail that same day to begin serving a 30-day jail sentence with work release from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. He also received 10 years’ probation, Deeds said.

Hulett was in his third term as mayor when he resigned in early May 2021, less than two weeks after being pulled over by a Granbury police officer on East Pearl Street near the square after the conclusion of the Granbury Wine Walk.

He was arrested on a Class B misdemeanor DWI charge and booked into jail in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 25. Hulett was released later that day after posting a $1,000 bond.

The charge was later enhanced to a third-degree felony after an investigation revealed two previous DWI charges, one of which was in another state. Hulett turned himself in to be re-arrested and posted another bond, that one for $5,000.

Hulett’s resignation as mayor led to a special election to seat a replacement. Jim Jarratt won that contest.
