Gerald Wade Childs, 85, of Henderson, Texas, went to be with the Lord on March 27, 2026. Born Nov. 25, 1940, in Pecos, Texas, he was raised in Grandfalls and served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962 in Korea.
He married Janet Faye Morris Nov. 25, 1962, and they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. Gary and Janet were charter members of Oak Trail Baptist Church in Granbury. In 1978, they entered missionary service in Canada, serving in the Arctic and beyond until returning to Texas in 2006. Gerald was a devoted Christian, missionary, husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and brothers.
Gary leaves behind a legacy of love, truth and faithfulness to his family, the Body of Christ, and all who knew him.
He would leave you with this: “Pass it on. Christ Jesus shed His blood on the cross to save you. Read your Bible and stand up patriots … America needs you!”
A U.S. Army Honor Guard Memorial will be held at the Henderson VFW Post 853 in Henderson, Texas, May 4 at 13:00 (1 p.m.) Lunch will be served.
