Golf fundraiser to assist Tolar Band for Pearl Harbor trip

Posted

A golf fundraiser and silent auction will be held from 8:30-11 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, at Squaw Valley Golf Course in Glen Rose to assist the Tolar Rattler Band in their trip to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in December.

The Rattler band was invited to perform at the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor as part of the National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day ceremonies on Dec. 7.

To help with the costs associated with the trip, Tolar band parents Laura Robertson and Angela Payne came up with the idea to host a golf fundraiser and silent auction.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime trip for a lot of these kids and parents,” Robertson said.

The silent auction will include items like: hair care baskets, an Aaron Watson CD bundle, a Scentsy gift bundle and golf certificates.

The fee for the golf tournament is $125 per player and $500 for a team of four. The price includes greens fees, cart fees, range balls and lunch.

Lunch will include a cheeseburger, chips and tea or water.

Prizes will be given to first, second and third place as well as hole-in-one and closest to pin.

Players are allowed two mulligans — do-overs — for $10.

The band will be featured in performance in the historic commemoration to honor America’s heroes who fought on the “date which will live in infamy.” To commemorate this special anniversary, the band will take part in an official military wreath-laying ceremony at the USS Arizona Memorial and an official flag-folding ceremony at the USS Missouri Memorial.

“I think it’s going to be a good learning experience for the kids and some for the parents because we get to visit the Arizona memorial,” Robertson said. “We get to go on the Army base. There’s six days of planning while we’re there.”

Donation items for the silent auction will be accepted until Tuesday, April 20.

The deadline for team registration for the golf tournament is Thursday, April 8.

Individuals can make checks payable to Tolar Rattler Band Boosters.

“We hope everyone can come out and continue to support the Tolar High School Band as we raise money for our performance at the 80th annual Pearl Harbor Commemoration in December at Hawaii,” said Tolar High School Band Director Aaron Noland. “We are very excited and humbled to be chosen as the representative of Texas to perform at this event.”
