Granbury High School junior volleyball player Allyson McCabe was named Volleyball All-State by the Texas Girls Coaches Association for the 2023 season.

To be nominated for All-State a player must be nominated by a coach. Up to 50 athletes may be selected per conference.

McCabe is a setter and was also named District 5-5A First Team All-District, Academic All-District and selected to the AVCA Phenom Watch List.

During her junior season, McCabe registered 991 assists (7.5 assists per set), 476 digs, 35 aces and nine blocks. She also surpassed 1,000 career assists.

“I’m honored to be named as All-State for the first time with such a talented group of athletes. I love all and appreciate all the support I got from my coaches this season,” McCabe told the HCN. “This season was full of amazing moments including our win against Northwest (High School). I believe we were underestimated after a tough pre-season, but we didn’t give up and went 9-3 in our district. Making the All-State team makes me want to work even harder on and off the court.”

The team competed in the UIL Class 5A Playoffs and advanced to Area after a bi-district championship win over Arlington Heights.

“She is a great leader on and off the court and she pushes all of her teammates to be the best that they can be. She is not the tallest, so she has busted her butt to become a threat at the net as well as leading our offense,” GHS volleyball coach Des Shahan said in a Granbury ISD news article. “If we do not have her on the court, we would not survive because she is the glue to our team.”

When it comes to next season McCabe is looking forward to helping her team go far again and play alongside hitters Blakey Bleeker and Sienna Watts. McCabe added that her ultimate goal is to play volleyball in college and noted she is in the recruiting process now. She hopes to find a school that plays high level volleyball and has a good team culture as well as an interesting academic program.
