The Granbury Woman’s Club, which is a part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) headquartered in Washington D.C., is pleased to announce the kickoff of the National Day of Service on Sept. 30, spotlighting food insecurity and hunger in the United States.

Donna Engel, president of the Granbury chapter, says that over 700 clubs in 48 states are participating this year to help increase public awareness and provide food resources to residents in their communities.

Locally, the Granbury Woman’s Club has collected food items for Mission Granbury to be distributed to homebound seniors every week. Many of these seniors can’t afford nutritious food or are unable to shop for and prepare their own meals.

The GFWC tagline is “Living the Volunteer Spirit” which is the essence of this national public awareness campaign about hunger and food insecurity. It takes a village of concerned community leaders, public servants, and compassionate neighbors to solve hunger.
