Henson Metal, Myers Automotive give back | Toy drives benefit Hood County Christmas for Children

For several years, two businesses have been dedicating their time and efforts each year to give back to the local community.

Henson Metal and Myers Automotive each hold an annual toy drive event every year in December to benefit the nonprofit organization Hood County Christmas for Children.

Henson Metal in Cresson held its 15th annual toy drive on Dec. 2, complete with raffles and an exotic car known as the “Monkee Mobile.”

"We had seven trucks and one trailer full of donated toys,” said Paige Hopkins, vice president for Hood County Christmas for Children. “Then they also had some money they made off the raffle items and they went out and bought things that we were needing. A kid had asked for basketball goals, so they went and bought basketball goals for the children.”

Myers Automotive has been holding its annual car show and toy drive for almost 30 years now. The 29th event was held on Dec. 3 and featured burgers, drinks and chips from O’Reilly Auto Parts.

"People bring out toys and they have old cars there for the public to stop and look at," Hopkins said, estimating that the event featured more than 20 vehicles.

Myers’ toy drive brought in approximately 300 toys, according to Thomas Myers himself, who has been a resident of Granbury for almost 53 years.

“This is an opportunity to give back to my community,” he said. “I’ve been in business for almost 39 years. I don't have children myself and I felt the presence of a higher being to do this and help my community. I do it out of my heart. I get self-gratification from our Lord for doing this."

“They both work so hard every year to do this for us,” Hopkins added.

Barbara Townsend, a board member of Hood County Christmas for Children, couldn’t thank both organizations enough for their kindness and dedication to the community.

“Their consistent generosity is something we know we can depend on,” she said. “They have always been wonderful advocates and patrons for Christmas for Children.”
