Hood County Junior Livestock Show 2023 Results - Part One

The 2023 Hood County Junior Livestock Show has officially concluded after another successful year.

With 338 exhibitors and 909 show entries, the show came to an end after Saturday’s premium auction sale that generated an astounding amount of funds.

Patricia Becker, sale chairman and treasurer of the Hood County Livestock Raisers Association, said the sale itself generated $521,325, which was “record breaking,” compared to last year’s final total of $450,652.

“There are thousands more to be added to the final sale totals from add-ons and the silent auction,” Becker said.

“Early numbers indicate that we will surpass last year’s sale numbers by a longshot,” said Bobby Davis, Hood County Livestock Raisers Association president.

Becker added that Hood County businesses “stepped up big,” this year.

“Caiman Cody's Grand Champion steer went for $17,000 bought by GCH Concrete Services, Jerry Durant, G-Force & Associates, and Henson's Metal and Steel Supply,” she said. “Jerry Durant was recognized prior to the start of the sale as the Top Buyer from the 2022 show from our president, Bobby Davis.”

Davis described the livestock show as being “stellar,” and thanked the volunteers and members of the Hood County Livestock Raisers Association for putting on “such a great event.”

"The kids, the quality of their projects, and their infectious enthusiasm make it all worthwhile,” he said. “It is great to see the overwhelming support from this community. We are blessed to be a part of it.”
