The Board of Directors met in a special meeting to discuss applicants for the chief appraiser’s position, vacant since the resignation of Eddie Roe in May.  The Board unanimously approved the hiring of Jeff Law, former chief appraiser for Hood CAD from 1998 to 2008.  He served as chief appraiser in Tarrant County from 2008 to 2023.

“I am honored to join Hood County as the Chief Appraiser and look forward to returning to the small-town atmosphere,” Law said. “My goal will be to strengthen our communications and improve the customer service experience with the community, board of directors, and taxing unit stakeholders; while at the same time keeping our focus on providing accurate appraisals and tax collection services in an ethical, courteous, and professional manner. I look forward to leading the Hood County Appraisal District, where I can work directly with the community, and taxing units to find solutions to issues that mutually meet one another’s expectations. “

Board Chairman for Hood CAD, Eddie Rodriguez stated, “We are exceptionally pleased to have Mr. Law come on board to lead our district.  We were seeking someone with extensive experience and strong leadership characteristics, and Mr. Law certainly meets those criteria.  We will work closely with him to ensure accuracy of appraisals in Hood CAD and provide excellence in customer service and a transparent operation for our citizens.”

Mr. Law is a graduate of Texas Christian University with a BBA in finance.  He has served in all offices of the Texas Association of Appraisal Districts and has been active in the legislative process for many years.  He has achieved all professional certifications within the property tax profession in Texas.  He received the Certified Tax Administrator of the Year award from the Texas Association of Assessing Officers in 2009 and under his leadership, the Tarrant Appraisal District received the prestigious Certificate in Assessment Administration Program designation from the International Association of Assessing Officers.

Mr. Law is expected to begin work in mid-September working to rebuild the trust of the tax units in Hood County as well as with its citizens.
