Granbury High School's Lady Pirates basketball team accomplished something Monday night that hadn’t been done since before any of the current players even started school.

They won a bi-district game for a third consecutive season, defeating Fort Worth O.D. Wyatt 66-17 at Jeff Cody Arena in Cleburne. The last time the Granbury girls team advanced to the second round three straight years was from 2007-09.

Senior Ella Hamlin led the Lady Pirates with 21 points, while junior Ella Garner scored 13, and freshman Jolie Hayes added 10.

Granbury, the runner-up in District 5-5A, improved to 23-11. Wyatt, the third-place team in 6-5A, ended its season 15-13.

Next, the Lady Pirates will be competing in the area round on Thursday, Feb. 16, against the Mansfield Timberview Lady Wolves. Timberview (33-3) has won 25 straight and is ranked No. 2 in the state.

The game will be played at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center, just off of Interstate 20 in Fort Worth at C.A. Roberson Blvd. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

The Lady Pirates are seeking to advance to the third round for the first time since 2013.

“This has been a fun ride this year. Let’s keep it going,” Lady Pirates coach Alan Thorpe said.
