Lipan home total loss after fire

Posted

Two adults were displaced by a fire that destroyed a three-bedroom brick residence on North Kickapoo Street across the street from Lipan High School on Monday afternoon, according to Hood County Fire Marshal Jeff Young.

One of the two people who lived there was home at the time the fire began, shortly after about 3:30 p.m. The woman who lived there was able to exit the home without incident, Young said. The other resident, her son, was not home at the time of the fire. A pet cat that was in the house may not have survived the blaze, Young noted.

Young mentioned that firefighters from Lipan, Granbury and Tolar responded, and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the homes nearby, on each side of the residence. There was fire damage throughout the structure, and the roof was burned away.

The residents had no home insurance, Young noted. They were contacted by American Red Cross representatives offering assistance.

The exact cause of the fire has not been determined, Young said Tuesday morning. He added that it appears it may have started in a spare bedroom that was used for smoking.
